Schnell LiFi announces Canadian expansion following strategic meeting with Ontario Minister Victor Fedeli
Originally a Fraunhofer spin-off, the wireless optical company plans to introduce secure LiFi connectivity solutions across key Canadian industries.
Singapore -- Schnell LiFi, a global innovator in LiFi technology and wireless optical communication, today announced plans to expand into Canada following a strategic meeting in Singapore with Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Victor Fedeli.
The expansion marks an important milestone in Schnell LiFi’s international growth strategy as the company prepares to introduce its high-speed, ultra-secure LiFi connectivity solutions and products to the North American market and support the development of next-generation digital infrastructure.
Industry analysts expect the global LiFi market to grow rapidly as governments and enterprises seek secure alternatives to traditional wireless networks.
The company originated as a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems and builds on the scientific research standards of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
Schnell LiFi’s technology enables broadband communication using light rather than traditional radio-frequency signals. This approach allows for highly secure, RF-free connectivity in environments where conventional Wi-Fi may cause interference or introduce security vulnerabilities.
“This meeting with Minister Fedeli was a turning point for our North American strategy,” said Mr. Sudhir Shreedharan, CEO, Schnell LiFi.
“Ontario represents the heartbeat of Canada’s technology ecosystem. Our mission is clear - to deploy next-generation digital infrastructure that drives economic impact, creates high-value jobs, and ensures Canada remains at the forefront of the global connectivity revolution.”
Minister Fedeli noted the company’s growing international presence and innovation in wireless communications.
“With a strong presence in Singapore and Germany, Schnell LiFi’s innovative technology enables high-speed, reliable and secure wireless communication,” said Minister Victor Fedeli. He further added that, “It was a pleasure meeting with their leadership team to discuss their work in the European and ASEAN markets and their plans to continue to grow.”
Schnell LiFi’s leadership team included Chief of Staff - Asia, Dr. Tao Li and Southeast Asia Advisor Dr. Eugene Seah, who also participated in the strategic discussions.
Dr. Tao Li highlighted Ontario’s innovation-focused economic strategy. He said, “We are encouraged by Ontario’s forward-looking approach to innovation and its commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure. This creates opportunities for meaningful partnerships and long-term collaboration.”
Dr. Eugene Seah also emphasised the role of LiFi technology in supporting smart infrastructure development.
“LiFi will strongly complement 5G in Singapore and across the region by delivering ultra-secure, high-speed connectivity for smart buildings, hospitals, schools, and data centers. This strengthens digital resilience and supports future-ready infrastructure. The world needs LiFi-ready cities.”
As part of its Canadian expansion strategy, Schnell LiFi plans to prioritise deployment across several sectors, including:
• Government and defence environments requiring secure data transmission.
• Industrial and scientific facilities where traditional Wi-Fi may interfere with sensitive equipment.
• Smart city infrastructure supporting high-capacity and sustainable connectivity networks.
By advancing wireless optical communication solutions, Schnell LiFi aims to contribute to resilient digital infrastructure that supports both economic growth and sustainable communities.
The company expects its Canadian expansion to accelerate the adoption of LiFi technology across North America and strengthen innovation in secure wireless connectivity, performance and environmental stability.
